Remote Sensing Tools for Monitoring Forests and Tracking Their Dynamics

چکیده

Abstract Remote sensing augments field data and facilitates foresight required for forest management by providing spatial temporal observations of characteristics at landscape regional scales. Statistical machine-learning models derived from plot-level can be extrapolated to larger areas using remote data. For example, instruments such as light detection ranging (LiDAR) hyperspectral sensors are frequently used quantify the stand level. Moreover, multispectral imagery synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sets satellite platforms extrapolate resource large regions. The combination novel technologies, expanding computing capabilities, emerging geospatial methods ensures a data-rich environment effective strategic, tactical, operational planning monitoring in management.

Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring

In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...

Monitoring Land Cover Changes of Forests and Coastal Areas of Northern Iran (1988-2010): A Remote Sensing Approach

Caspian Sea coastline in the Mazandaran province has been altered as a result of activities of developers attracted to aesthetic and coastal recreational aspects of forest ecosystems. Advances in GIS and RS techniques, has made it possible to study the coastal areas for better management. Hence, the present study was undertaken to determine land cover changes via applying cross classificat...

Monitoring Marsh Dynamics Through Remote Sensing

The first synoptic images from space were provided by TIROS spacecraft with a video camera onboard in 1960 (Susskind et al. 1984), these images revealed a huge spheroid fully covered by oceans and clouds. There was still a long way to travel from simply picturing Earth to the current technological achievements of remote sensing science. However, the main scientific purposes of using remote sens...

Monitoring Forests as Carbon Sinks Using Remote Sensing

The Kyoto Protocol intends to limit or reduce CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 (base year) levels and allows carbon emissions to be balanced by carbon sinks represented by vegetation (e.g. forests). The present paper is focused on three key aspects related to the capabilities of remote sensing data to help in monitoring forests as carbon sinks. The first one attends to find statis...

Remote sensing technology for mapping and monitoring vegetation cover (Case study: Semirom-Isfahan, Iran)

To determine the suitable indices for vegetation cover and production assessment based on the remote sensing data, simultaneous digital data with field data belonging to the spring rangeland of the Semirom-Isfahan province were analyzed. During two years of monitoring the annual, grass, forb, and shrub vegetation cover and the total production data from 86 were collected. The Global Positioning...
